Kevin: We'll Bounce Back

Kevin Horlock says the players must respond positively after the Carling cup defeat by Spurs on Wednesday.

"It is just a matter of picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves down, and looking to Coventry," he says.

"Any Tottenham or West Ham fan that was at the game would say, I think, that it was a very close game that could have gone either way.

"Unfortunately for us they got the goal that counted.

"I felt a little bit disappointed because I thought we gave a good account of ourselves against a Tottenham side who are getting decent results at Premiership level.

"We proved to ourselves that we are ready to make that step up.

"All right, it is still going to be a long hard season but Wednesday was a big boost although we took nothing from it.

"Obviously Alan was a little bit disappointed; we lacked a little bit of concentration at vital times, could have scored a few, didn't, and conceded at a crucial moment, but I think the lads can give themselves a pat on the back."

Kevin says going to Spurs was a reminder that West Ham are missing the big time at the moment, and adds:

"It is a lovely stadium and it is a lovely pitch; it was a packed house and that is the situation we want to be in - we are going to work hard so that next season we are going to play in games like that on a regular basis."

And he reckons competition is increasing at the club, adding:

"The manager has shown confidence in players to do the job and I think everyone, no matter what position they were in, gave a good account of themselves.

"That makes the job more difficult for the manager because he knows he has got a squad of players who can do the job."
