Chance To Impress

Paul Goddard says the players will be looking on this week's two games as the final chance to impress the manager-in-waiting, Alan Pardew.

With all of the players involved on international duty now back in the fold, preparations for the Norwich game are well under way.

It is, of course, the final week of Trevor Brooking's temporary stewardship of West Ham, with the baton passing on to Alan after the Burnley game.

"I am sure, if he is not actually watching each of these games, he will be getting reports or videos so he is certainly in a situation where he is taking stock of the playing staff," says Paul.

"It is quite unique situation Alan finds himself in; all of these players have to show to the new manager what they can do.

"I have been in football for 28 years now and the last six months have capped anything I have experienced.

"There have been some highlights and some horrendous moments, with Glenn's illness and the change in the club in the summer.

"And now we have a manager who couldn't take over for five weeks.

"You always say 'never be surprised in football' but it has kicked up a few surprises in the last six months - it has certainly not been plain sailing, that is for sure."
