In A Corner

Christian Dailly believes that West Ham will grab more goals from corners this season than has happened in the past.

Christian scored his first goal for the club this season with a header from a corner, and Scotland team mate Don Hutchison splendidly half volleyed home a corner to claim the points at Derby on Saturday.

It doubled the number of corners scored from compared to the season before, and Christian says:

"The quality of the corners has been very much better this campaign than it has been since I came.

"Wayne Quinn puts in a great ball as does Jermain and it has been better."

It means a certain amount of bravery is required, but despite 'losing' - then having put back in - a couple of teeth at Rotherham he is not afraid to get his head, gnashers and all, in where it hurts.

"I am not worried about them; if I was I would have stopped a long time ago," he smiles.

Christian says he is satisfied with the way things are going at the moment, adding:

"Over the seven game period we have won five of the games, drawn one, and lost one - it is not too bad.

"You are never going to win every single game you play; we will try to but it is impossible and I think we can be reasonably pleased with the way we are sitting in the table.

"We have three home games coming up and we want to come away from that even higher in the table.

"We have been pretty solid but there are so many games in this division we have to keep everyone fit and focused - and go for it.

"There is no time in between, really; it is just a matter of coming in and playing the games."

Although, in the case of Christian, that has been interrupted slightly by the imminent arrival of his fourth child, which means he has been training in the south before joining the Scotland squad to face Lithuania later in the week.

"It is a big decision for me and my family but everyone has thought about it very carefully after talking things through with my wife Kirsty and Berti Vogts - missing the game on Saturday is not an issue for me."

He is delighted West Ham claimed all three points against his old club Derby on Saturday, and says:

"It was three great points and a lot of the games are like that - it is just a matter of carrying on digging in.

"I have played loads of games there where you come away thinking you have played well but it was 2-2 or you have lost 2-1.

"So sometimes it is not pretty, but it has to be effective and I was delighted for Don.

"It looked like it might end up 0-0; we had a few decent chances but it was a wee bit scrappy.

"But if you keep the zero there is always a chance you could nick one with the quality we have up front - and that is what happened."
