Conners: More To Come

David Connolly reckons there is more to come from West Ham as they continue to adjust to life in the first division.

Trevor Brooking has said that the side is still looking for the complete performance and David agrees.

"I think we could play better; we knock the ball long too much and it enables the opposition to pick up the ball," he admits.

"When we get it down and pass it as we did in spells at Derby we played very well and opened them up.

"I am sure if we did that a bit more we would put teams under a lot more pressure than we do."

And the elusive 90 minute 'perfect' performance?

"In this league against the teams that are here we are not ever going to get that, really, but there may possibly be longer spells when we have the ball than we do at the moment," he says.

Looking at the win at Pride Park, he adds:

"I didn't think it was going to happen in the end but it was a fantastic finish from Don.

"We played well and had all the chances so I felt we should have won and gratefully we did.

"I had a couple of chances; the one from Niclas in the second half was a great ball but I just didn't catch it right.

"In the first half I fashioned one out quite well but I didn't quite get my foot round it.

"But it was good that at least I was getting the chances, which I haven't been lately, with a combination of good saves and maybe I could have done a little bit better.

"I haven't been getting as many opportunities as possibly I'd hoped but on Saturday I thought it was a great cut back from Quinny and I just seemed to find the ball which was good.

"The only reason you want to score is to help your team win and thankfully we did that with Hutch popping up with a fantastic goal in the end.

"It was a great three points and I would swap scoring for winning."

That the win was executed missing one of the team's most influential players, Jermain Defoe, was even more pleasing, and David adds:

"Obviously any team would miss Jermain but he will be back soon and it is great for the club that Hutch is back.

"It is another win for Trevor and hopefully we can get another one and when the new manager comes in we will kick on and it will give us another extra boost."

David is currently on international duty with Eire and he says:

"I could do with a few rest days and hopefully I will get them and return refreshed."
