Tony: Let's Start A Run

Tony Gale hopes that the trip to Watford will be the start of a run of successive wins for West Ham.

"It is not an easy game at Watford with the three Ws to come, Watford, Wimbledon and Wigan, and let's hope we win, with a W, the lot.

"I would imagine the lads are getting back into it and I would imagine Alan in particular wants to get off the mark with his first win - and the quicker he gets it the better."

Tony is calling on the side to forget the disappointment of losing 4-3 to West Brom after being 3-0 up and adds:

"I would suppose it has happened to every team in history and Alan is unfortunate that it has happened to him so soon in his reign as manager.

"But I think it was a warning shot across the bows, and if the players think they are going to coast promotion they have got another think coming.

"I think you would be raring to go for the next one and you would think that defeat would be the one that really got them going.

"They won't really need a wake-up call from him because they have got the one they needed.

"Alan now has to put a run together with the side and four or five wins on the trot is something he and the side are capable of - we are one of the few squads in that division that can do it."

Tony anticipates a very different game from the one against West Brom - another 'W' of course, and adds:

"I think it is a good game to go into; they are a good footballing side with a friend of mine, Ray Lewington, running them.

"He likes to get the ball down on the floor and play and I think it should suit us.

"We have been beaten by the bullying sides lately; West Brom are a big old lumpy side who like to play in the last third rather than building up.

"But Watford will be different and we should be looking at the three Ws and I reckon we should be looking at seven points at least if we want to move ourselves up."

Ray nearly became Glenn Roeder's assistant when he took over as manager but honoured an already made verbal agreement to take over at Vicarage Road instead.

"Ray is a good coach who has been around for ages," says Tony, "and he is respected throughout the football world, and he nearly ended up second in command.

"Ask anyone about Ray and they will tell you he is a nice guy and a good coach whose football teams are enjoyable to watch.

"Nothing less than a win will do; we have to be looking at that and Wimbledon in the week and be saying nothing less than three points will be enough.

"These are teams we really have to account for and I would say we have to get six points from the two away games, and then we have Wigan at home - and you fancy yourselves against anyone at home.

"It is that winning run you are looking for, those five or six games on the trot, very similar to the one that Ipswich got that catapulted them up the league.

"I think we are on the verge of doing it but it just needs something to kick start it and hopefully this will be it."
