Glenn: Signings Settling

Glenn Roeder feels that the win over Spurs proved that his major January signings are settling in nicely.

"At the time of the transfer window closing I think everyone took the view that Bowyer, Ferdinand, and Brevett were three terrific pieces of business," he says.

"I think against Spurs, those three were excellent, with Bowyer having his best game for us - and proving that he was over his ankle injury.

"His movement and running off the ball on the day was tremendous - and he was very unlucky not to score twice.

"I think everyone can see what a good performer Brevett is, and Nigel Winterburn knows he has got a real fight to get his place back.

"They are both fighters and it is going to be exciting times in the last nine games to see those two slogging it out for the right to play left back.

"At the moment, while Rufus has got the shirt and he is playing well he will keep it - and Nigel is happy with that, as he always enjoys a fight.

"Fulham signed two full backs to replace Brevett and he saw them off because he stayed a regular in the first team.

"Nigel will want to play again this year. He has had a fine season, but he will respect the quality that Brevett has brought to the left back role and he knows that he has a fight on his hands."

"And for Les, I use the description that he has been a breath of fresh air - especially to Jermain."
