Glenn: No Big Deals

As Glenn Roeder is poised to sign Lee Bowyer, he does not anticipate too many deals across the country in the transfer window being as high profile as him - and certainly does not envisage any big transfer fees.

"Money has never been tighter; maybe in football we have brought this on ourselves with how loose we have been with the money in the last seven or eight years but the tide has turned and times have changed," he says.

"I know it is not just us that haven't got transfer funds - the majority of Premiership clubs couldn't spend money in the transfer market even if they wanted to, no matter what they say.

"The money is not available so we are all in the same boat and the ones that want to do business like we do have to take players on loans or short term contracts with no transfer fee.

"We hope to complete one of those soon; it has taken creative thinking as well as all the clubs to realise and accept there are not transfer funds available - and if they want to move their players on they are going to have to accept just getting that player off the wage bill.

"As far as bringing players in is concerned you have to accept that although there is no fee you are paying wages which is a burden on a lot of clubs' budgets at the moment.

"We have looked at all different players from different countries but we have tried to target players who are in the Premiership, know what our situation is all about, and therefore what is required to get ourselves out of the hole we have got into.

"We hope one will be nailed down quickly and then another by the middle of next week.

"All managers always want more players but if I can get the two I have targeted I would have to be happy."
