Michael: A Lot To Do

Michael Carrick insists it is back to earth today after enjoying looking back on the 4-0 win over Wigan.

"The gaffer has said that we are not getting carried away even though we have done well," he says.

"There are a lot of games ahead so we have got to take it game by game and the next one is probably the biggest of the season so far," he adds, already looking at revenge at West Brom on Saturday following the recent 4-3 reverse after being 3-0 up at Upton Park.

"It will also be one of the hardest as well - so it is going to be interesting."

All of the top seven won - barring Wigan - at the weekend, and Michael adds:

"With other top teams winning as well it made it all the more important for us to get the victory, it drags Wigan closer to us, but we need to keep winning.

"We are still seventh and there is a long way to go; next weekend is a big one because we need to follow on that performance and take it to West Brom.

"When something like that happens it is not nice but we have gone some way towards putting it right, but we will see on Saturday."

Michael admits it was not a faultless performance at the weekend despite the four goal margin and adds:

"It was nice, and made a bit easier with the sendings off, but we started the game well and got 2-0 up early on.

"We probably played better against 11 men than we did when they went down to 10 men and then nine - when we probably got a bit sloppy.

"The game was over, it was won, and they weren't really pushing anyone forward by then.

"It was just a matter of seeing the game out and if another goal came, fine, but it was just a matter of getting the three points."

As for the arrival of Marlon Harewood, he adds:

"He has banged them in, you can't argue with that, and what can you say?"

David James adds:

"It is a good atmosphere and 4-0 is a good result; one of the fortunes of this season is that no one is running away with it - we have played some good football and can get confidence from that."

As for Trevor Brooking's imminent departure to work for the F.A., Michael concludes:

"I don't know too much about it, all I know is that it is good for Trev.

"He has been great for me and he is still a legend here."
