Glenn: Search Is Constant

Glenn Roeder says that his scouting team are already looking at possible new recruits - despite the transfer window being closed.

It is a new situation, with the transfer deadline having traditionally arrived in March and lasting until the end of the season.

This season, of course, the window is only open again in January, but Glenn reveals that does not mean he has slowed down the targeting of new faces.

"All the scouts are working hard," he says. Obviously Ted Pearce heads the scouting team and Paul Montgomery is very much focused on the continent and has a great network of his own scouts and informers around Europe.

"Whereas the scouts before were flying all over Europe, looking at potential loan signings that you might need quickly, the scouting has now changed and we are not doing that because you can't bring a player in on loan anyway.

"We are specifically targeting players in positions that we know we will need to fill next year.

"There are no excuses if we don't find those players because we have got eight or nine months to identify the players we want next season.

"Already you could easily identify two or three positions that have got to be filled next year."

That he doesn't have too many injuries to worry about can only be considered good fortune thus far, as bringing in replacements is impossible until the New Year.

"That is how I want it all season," he says, "and although it will give me some selection problems, believe me, it is a better problem than if you are worrying if you can get eleven out or not.

"We are working really hard on Don Hutchison and he is the only senior player not fit.

"We hope he will be okay to play in a number of weeks, and when that happens, and if no one else gets injured, we will have a fully fit senior squad, but that is a long way off."
