Burning Question

Should fit-again Fredi Kanoute be immediately recalled to the starting line-up against Southampton next Monday and, if so, who should make way for his return - or do you think he should be included alongside Jermain Defoe AND Paolo Di Canio?

Your replies:

Bruce Rogers, London
Should Fredi play on Monday? Yes. He gives us another dimension to our attacking play. Jermain has done exceptionally well whilst Fredi has been injured but I think he should be rested (subs bench) for the game against Southampton. We should start with 4-4-2 but look to change to 4-3-3 if the goals haven't come with 30 minutes to go. We can not afford to start too adventurous as we dont want to be chasing the game from an early start.

I think it maybe time to try a new formation, but I don't think Glenn would be comfortable with three at the back in the present defensive climate. So maybe it's time to try a 4-3-3 formation which will allow for the inclusion of Fredi in a front three. I would be very interested to see Glenn's midfield trio in that type of formation. I know mine would be Cole, Carrick and Cisse, with the strength in depth on the bench to change things at anytime. But whether you include Fredi or not, the team needs points and a change of formation, maybe 4-3-3 would help us keep the ball better (midfield and front trio can play in small triangles) and score more goals.

I think that Fredi should be recalled to the starting 11, because West Ham have missed him in their recent games. Without him we lack height up front, which is something we need. I dont think we should play with three strikers though, because if we did that we do not have the width or strength in midfield. Ideally he should be paired with Di Canio, because he is quick and can outwit the opposition defenders.

Paul Lewsey, Northfield, Minnesota, USA
Fredi Kanoute should start against Southhampton in place of Jermain Defoe. The Kanoute/Di Canio partnership has been the most productive for the Hammers in the past.  For the time being, Defoe's best role is as a spark off the bench.

Phil McGee, Navan
Defoe, Di Canio and Fredi should be played up front, with Di Canio sitting back a little from the front two. Cisse should be dropped and let Cole, Carrick and Sinclair control the middle, with Carrick and Cole taking a more defensive role. The back four should be Schemmel, Pearce, Repka and Winterburn

Alan Hepworth, Liverpool
I hope Glenn decides to play all three of them so that we can try and take the game to the opposition for the first time at Upton Park this
season instead of waiting to go a goal (or several) down before we get our act together. C'MON U IRONS!

Darren Little, East London
I think he should start up front alongside Defoe, but I'd also play Di Canio in a attacking midfield role where he plays just behind the front two.

Graham Drummond, Brisbane, Australia
Defoe badly needs a rest, so he should be benched for the next two or three matches. Kanoute should definitely play, as should Di Canio who is in top form and keen to impress for a new contract.

Mark Linter, Hornchurch
I believe we need to play two strikers, therefore Fredi alongide Jermain to allow him to play off Fredi. We seldom have two players in the box on a break. Paolo drops short in to midfield anyway and could therefore play wide right or left in the 4-4-2 formation or behind the front two if we went for 3-5-2. Very few teams come to West Ham with two out and out strikers.

Darren Green, London
Fredi must play on Monday night with Defoe up front. Di Canio to have a roaming role behind the front two switching from left to right and making a general nuisance to the rearguard of Southampton.

Ian Mason, Woolwich
Play all three. With Lomas out and Cisse suspended, what better chance than to try out all of them together, it can't get much worse than it already is!
