Paolo Mystified

Paolo Di Canio says he has never played in a side whose fortunes have differed so wildly from home to away.

Asked whether he has come across such schizophrenia in football, he replies:

"To be honest, no; it is two different seasons, winning mathematically at home and losing mathematically away.

"We have the same squad, the same players, the same manager, the same shirt...actually sometimes we wear a different shirt away, so maybe that is the problem!

"The difference is the ground; there isn't the same ground away, there is no Bobby Moore stand.

"I think we can change our ways and direction in the next few away games; I hope so, but we do not need to change at home where we are very good.

"We must try to look at the next away game and get some points, because we have the same players with the same quality."

As for the win over Everton which preserves a proud record of just seven goals conceded in the Premiership at Upton Park so far this season, he says:

"It was three very important points and now we can look at the Manchester United game in a more comfortable situation; with 37 points we can face them without pressure and put in a good performance.

"It was a difficult game against Everton, who were close to us on points, so we had to be careful; if we had lost we would have been in a bad position again, especially considering who we play in the next two games.

"Once again we showed we are a very good team, one of the best in the league at home, and if we change our attitude away in the remaining games, who knows what we can do?

"We can still have a good end of the season.

"I think we are going to beat Manchester United, draw away with Arsenal; unfortunately that is the next away game and it will not be easy, but we have to do our best to improve."
