Titi Trying

Titi Camara says that he will keep fighting for a first team place this season - and then review the situation with the club in the summer.

The 29-year-old striker, who joined from Liverpool for £2.2m a year ago but then sustained a knee injury before the season was over, admits he has even contemplated retiring from the game altogether.

"It's the truth, yes - for the moment, if I'm not playing, I wouldn't be interested in continuing," he says.

"I don't want to leave at the moment for another club, and we'll have to see about that in the summer.

"It is like a painter who paints pictures and then throws them away, or a journalist who writes but the newspaper doesn't come out, so that everything he does is useless."

Titi, who still has two years of his deal to run this summer, insists his motivation is not financial and insists: "It's not a question of money because I earned money at Marseille and Liverpool. I'm just asking for the chance to play."

A change of scenery might give the affable Guinean's career fresh impetus, however, and he admits: "Happily I have my family and children. I like West Ham and I like London, but if I'm not playing at the end of the season I will have to talk to the directors to find a solution.

"I don't have the intention to leave but at the end of the season we'll see. If they don't want to count on me then it is like saying 'we don't want you any more - leave' and that wouldn't be a problem.

"I am in a difficult situation but mentally I am ready. I want to play but if I don't get the chance I can't play.

"I'm not looking to cause an argument, I'm doing my work, but it's true I have had an injury and I want them to be patient with me.

"I'm training normally with the reserves and that's what pains me. When I see I'm with the reserves it means I'm no longer 'big', so if that was the case in two years I would leave the game.

"I proved myself at Liverpool but I can't get a game at West Ham and that hurts me. I know there is competition and if you are not so good then you stay on the bench - that is what a team is all about.

"Physically I think I am fit, though it is not me that makes that decision, but the boss and the coaching staff. I'm not against everyone but it's not easy."

Titi has made one appearance this season - as a second half substitute against Manchester United at Old Trafford - and he adds: "It gave me pleasure to return at Old Trafford - I was happy after my operation.

"But as I'm now training only with the reserves, and I'm not bad, it would be better to stop football.

"In one week you can't be as fit as the others after an operation, but it serves no purpose to continue football if I can't play at West Ham."
