Shaun: Massive Season Ahead

Young midfielder Shaun Byrne says he is back in business - and admits that this is a "massive" season for him.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international's pre-season has been disrupted somewhat by an injury sustained in Portugal where the squad was taken for warm weather training, and he says: "I got a little groin problem and it has taken longer than expected to get back.

"But I had 45 minutes against Dagenham, and the game at Braintree last night in which I played the whole game - and I am very pleased about that.

"It is a massive season for me and I have spoken to Glenn about it. The main thing, he says, is to stay fit.

"It is a blow missing so much of pre-season because that is when you want to make an impression, but if Glenn sees me doing well in the reserves hopefully I can push on and get 20 minutes in the first team or whatever.

"He has told me what he wants me to do - he is like that anyway on the training ground - and has given me a few ideas.

"The main thing is, though, that it is down to me to play well."
