Duo Return

Paolo Di Canio and Nigel Winterburn should both be back in the frame for the Aston Villa game on Wednesday night.

"Paolo and Nigel have both trained today without problems so hopefully they are okay as such," says assistant physio Simon Webster.

But Fredi Kanoute, who has also had a hamstring problem, is still not quite ready for a return to first team action.

Says Simon: "Fredi still needs a bit of work; he has been pushing on quite well, he has been running today and came through unscathed.

"Hopefully he will do the same again tomorrow and he can play against Manchester United, but whether or not we'll get there only time will tell."

"We are doing reasonably okay on the injury front Shaun Byrne, who had a fractured toe, is looking to play in the reserves tonight and Raggy Soma has had an intermittent calf strain, but there are no other new injuries to add to Steve Lomas and Steve Bywater.

"Joe did very well the other week for the reserves then got through the Spurs and Sunderland games so hopefully he can continue."

Simon knows that he and John Green will have their work cut out in December, though, and he says: "Really, we need to keep everyone as fit as possible but it is always difficult when games are on top of each other.

"No doubt there will be a lot of work to do in the coming weeks."
