Glenn: Work Goes On

Glenn Roeder admits that the pressure to make some signings isn't just coming from the fans - but his own players as well!
With the paperwork for Laurent Courtois going through soon, the Frenchman completes a trio of signings ahead of the big kick off.
If, as is hoped, Bosnian centre half Misrad Hibic gets a work permit next week, his name will be added to David James and Sebastien Schemmel as the summer signings Glenn Roeder has made.
But he is still looking to add to that, with midfield a priority - though rumours of Ray Parlour coming must surely be wide of the mark as he is believed to have signed a new deal at Arsenal.
But Glenn does not blame his frustration on not being appointed as boss earlier, and insists:
"There was hardly any activity on players during the summer that I thought I had missed out on, except for one or two just before I was appointed that could have interested us.
"But since then, there hasn't been any, and if I get to talk to a player directly I think I can convince him to join West Ham."
The players, he says, are waiting to welcome the new arrivals, and Glenn adds:
"To be fair, I think the small squad here is waiting for the new signings as much as everyone else.
"They are happy for the competition for their places, and every day they are looking in the morning to see if there are any new players.
"They want the size of the squad to improve as much as we all do.
"All signings are a gamble but you try to eliminate as much of the gambling as possible."
