Dailly Defiant

Christian Dailly says that the boo boys will not deflect his aim of making his Hammers' career a success.

He encountered something of a reaction on Saturday against Leeds before eventually being substituted, but insists:

"It's not something I bother about too much, I'm old enough and experienced enough to not worry about anything like that, so it's not a problem not to react.

"Everybody gets it some time and it's not something you bother about - at the end of the day we are all trying to do well for West Ham and that's all there is to it."

He played on the right hand side of the defence in the 2-0 defeat and adds: "It was OK, I've played in a few positions - midfield and centre half as well - and been getting shifted around a little bit; Sebastien was injured so that's why he asked me.

"But you kind of expect that sometimes, it is going to happen with guys on international duty and stuff like that, so if the manager asks you have to do it for the team."

He knows that he could help send Manchester City down at the weekend but will lose no sleep over the fact and says: "I suppose that is one way of looking at it but we are really just looking at ourselves and the consequences for other teams are irrelevant; it's what we do ourselves that is important and we have to be ruthless about it."

He is already looking with enthusisam to next season and says: "I think West Ham are always optimistic because of the good players we have got, and it is just about getting the team settled and gelled - since I came there has been a lot of chopping and changing with injuries, suspensions, new players and international call ups.

"It is very difficult to play any kind of settled side or settled system or anything; hopefully come next season we can get that sorted out a bit.

"We want to try and enjoy the last couple of games but while the mathematical possibility of relegation is still there you have got to win your games, there's no doubt about it. You want to win them anyway of course, and I think the squad will be stronger this week.

"We know it is a big game but as a player you can't get too carried away with it all; we have to put the nerves and jitters aside and win the game.

"There's a lot at stake at this time of year and sometimes the games will suffer a bit because of that, but that's the way people react."

Looking back at last weekend, he adds: "Leeds are a strong well organized side with great depth in their squad - they are definitely going places and are something to look up to, you have to give them credit, but we are disappointed not to take anything out of the game."

Christian insists that he is recovering from his midweek international jaunt and adds: "I was a bit tired after getting back in the early hours of Thursday morning following Scotland's game in Poland, but I'll be OK.

"I play in every Scotland game unless I am injured but we had seven guys getting their debuts."
