Areola nominated for Premier League Save of the Month award

Alphonse Areola’s outstanding stop against Newcastle United has been nominated for the Premier League Save of the Month award for March.

Our French shot-stopper’s incredible reach and reactions came to the fore during our narrow 1-0 defeat to the Magpies at London Stadium earlier this month, securing him a spot on the six-save shortlist to clinch the top-flight prize.

With the scores level at 0-0 around the hour mark, Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy whipped the ball in low from the right, which Maximilian Kilman inadvertently turned towards the top corner of his own goal.

However, Areola leapt upwards and managed to claw it away from underneath the crossbar to prevent the opener, with Alexander Isak flicking the rebound over.

The stop was one of a string of fine saves the 32-year-old produced on the night, with Harvey Barnes and Dan Burn also denied by our No23.

The winner of the Premier League's October 2023 Save of the Month award, who was also shortlisted for this season's February gong, Areola is this time nominated alongside Ederson of Manchester City, Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace, Mads Hermansen of Leicester City and Arsenal's David Raya (twice).

You can vote for Areola's wondersave HERE, with polling closing at 12noon BST on Monday 31 March. The winner will be announced at 2pm BST on Friday 4 April.
