Alphonse Areola has been nominated for the Premier League Save of the Month award for August for his sensational stop to deny Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

The Hammers were trailing 1-0 to Erling Haaland’s early goal at London Stadium when the Belgian took a left-wing corner short to Jack Grealish.

The England winger played the ball back to De Bruyne, who unleashed a powerful curling shot that was heading towards the top left-hand corner until Areola sprung himself into the air and diverted the ball over the crossbar with his outstretched right hand.

It was a save that showcased the Frenchman’s acrobatic athleticism and the strength in his hands and wrists to turn the ball away from danger.

Areola became the first West Ham goalkeeper to win the award when his save from Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz secured the prize in October 2023. The No23 was also nominated in November 2023 for his stop to deny Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni, and February 2024 for his save from Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard.

The 31-year-old has been shortlisted alongside Arsenal’s David Raya, Brentford’s Mark Flekken, Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric and Manchester City’s Ederson.

Voting is open now HERE and closes at 12noon on Monday 9 September. The winner will be announced at 2pm on Friday 13 September.
