Michail Antonio’s Jamaica stormed through to the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 5-0 win over Saint Kitts and Nevis on Sunday night.
Needing only a point to make sure of progression from Group A, the Reggae Boyz did more than enough by striking five times against their Caribbean neighbours.
The West Ham United striker played the first half at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, by which time his team were already two goals to the good thanks to an own goal by goalkeeper Julani Archibald and Barnsley midfielder Jon Russell.
Jamaica ran away with the contest after the break, as Di’Shon Bernard, Daniel Johnson and Cory Burke all netted to complete victory.
It all meant Antonio’s tenth cap for the Reggae Boyz ended in success as, following a draw with United States of America and victory against Trinidad and Tobago, Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side finished second in their group, behind the US on goal difference.
Jamaica will now take on the winners of Group D – with Guadeloupe, Guatemala and Canada all in the hunt – in their quarter-final tie on Sunday as their quest for a first-ever continental title continues.
The final will take place on Sunday 16 July at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
