Michail Antonio in action for Jamaica

Antonio selected by Jamaica for vital CONCACAF Nations League ties

Michail Antonio and Jamaica will hope to continue their strong start to their CONCACAF Nations League campaign during the October international break.

The West Ham United striker led the line for the Reggae Boyz in their opening two ties in September, helping Steve McLaren’s side draw 0-0 at home with Cuba, before netting the winner from the penalty spot in a 2-1 victory in Honduras.

The No9 scored his fifth goal in 20 appearances for his country to take Jamaica onto four points from two games played and top of Nations League A Group B, ahead of Nicaragua on goal difference and a point clear of Honduras.

Now, Antonio and his compatriots face two important matches, with a trip to the Nicaragua National Football Stadium in Managua on Thursday 10 October, followed by a home game with Honduras at Independence Park in Kingston on Monday 14 October.

League A Group B also includes Trinidad and Tobago and French Guiana, but as the CONCACAF Nations League is employing a ‘Swiss style’ league system, each team will play a total of four group-stage games, with two at home and two away.

The top two finishers will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will join the top two finishers in Group A and four seeded nations – Mexico, United States, Panama and Canada. The quarter-finals will be played in November, with the semi-finals and final to take place in March 2025.
