Álvarez named in provisional Mexico squad for 2024 Copa América

Hammers midfielder Edson Álvarez has been included in Mexico’s 31-man provisional squad for this summer’s 2024 Copa América in the United States.

The 26-year-old will link up with his national team following the conclusion of the Premier League season, as he bids to make Jaime Lozano’s final list of up to 26 players for the tournament.

Mexico - who were beaten by the USA in the CONCACAF Nations League final in March - are set for US-based friendlies against Bolivia (1am BST, Saturday 1 June), Uruguay (2am BST, Thursday 6 June) and Brazil (1.30am BST, Sunday 9 June), before their Copa América campaign begins against Jamaica in Houston, Texas, at 2am BST on Sunday 23 June.

The two-time competition runners-up then face further Group B clashes against Venezuela at 2am BST on Thursday 27 June, and Ecuador at 1am BST on Monday 1 July, in Inglewood, California, and Glendale, Arizona, respectively.
