Alphonse Areola has won the Premier League Castrol Save of the Month for October.
The Frenchman has won the award for his immense stop to deny Douglas Luiz’s powerful effort in the Hammers’ match away to Aston Villa last month.
The West Ham No23 had two saves nominated for the October honour, with his quick reflexes to deny Abdoulaye Doucouré in the Irons’ home clash with Everton also nominated.
However, it is Areola’s impressive save at Villa Park that has been chosen as the winner, with the 30-year-old seeing off competition from Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham, Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur and Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski.
This is the first time Areola has received such recognition for a save in the Premier League, continuing an incredible 2023/24 campaign between the sticks for the shot-stopper.
With 41 saves made this season in the league, Areola is joint-third in the English top flight for stops, behind only Fulham’s Bernd Leno and Sheffield United’s Foderingham.
