Alphonse Areola nominated for Premier League October Save of the Month

Two Alphonse Areola stops have been nominated for the Premier League Castrol Save of the Month for October 2023. 

The Frenchman has been in fine form for West Ham United this season and has made 39 saves already this campaign in the Premier League.

Two of his more notable stops in October league matches have now been selected on the shortlist for the Premier League Save of the Month. 

The West Ham No23’s first nominated stop came away to Aston Villa on Sunday 22 October, with Areola denying Douglas Luiz on 11 minutes at Villa Park. The 30-year-old was forced into a full-length dive to his left to tip over a powerful strike from distance by the Brazilian wide of the post.

The second nominated save was made in the home Premier League match against Everton on Sunday 29 October, when he stopped Abdoulaye Doucouré from doubling the Toffees’ lead with a reactive low save to hist left. 

Also nominated for the October award is Liverpool’s Alisson Becker for a stop away to Brighton & Hove Albion, Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham against Manchester United, Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur for a stop against Fulham, and Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski for denying Aston Villa. 

Voting is open now and closes at midday on Monday 6 November. West Ham supporters can cast their vote now here, and the winner will be announced on Friday 10 November.
