Ezra Mayers is a left-sided defender who made his U18s debut as a schoolboy. Calm in possession, and with a good range of passing too, Mayers is often the player building the attack, and penned Scholarship terms ahead of 2023/24.
A string of reliable performances in defence across 25 appearances for the U18s in the 2023/24 season saw Mayers awarded his first professional contract. The defender also featured on a hatful of occasions for the development side after he made his U21s debut in a 3-0 win over GNK Dinamo Zagreb U21s in January 2024.
In recognition of his 2023/24 exploits, Mayers was awarded the Dylan Tombides Award and Doris Bell Trophy, West Ham's annual awards given to the Academy of Football's outstanding scholar.
Mayers kicked on in his second year as a scholar, joining Mark Robson's U21s set up at Rush Green Training Ground, starting the majority of the development side's games in all competitions, while also helping the U18s side reach the Premier League Cup final. During the 2024/25 season, he also made his first senior matchday squad when he was named on the bench for West Ham United's 5-2 defeat at home to Arsenal in the Premier League.
