Katrina Gorry

Internationals | Gorry and Ademiluyi secure wins in final matches of October break

Katrina Gorry helped Australia to their first victory over Germany in 19 years as the Matildas won 2-1 at MSV-Arena in Duisburg.

Gorry lined up in midfield for the opening 45 minutes alongside Arsenal’s Kyra Cooney-Cross, who levelled for her country just before half-time with a fantastic long-range effort, after Selina Cerci had given the hosts an early lead.

Gorry was replaced at half-time, and in the second half, Germany had the majority of the chances and controlled possession on their own turf. However, they could not make their dominance count, as Claire Hunt met a perfectly delivered corner from Steph Catley 13 minutes from time to secure a historic win.

Australia head back Down Under for a friendly double-header against Brazil in the next international break, which will take place at the end of November.

Princes

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Princess Ademiluyi was in action for England U19s as they beat Norway U19s 2-0 to make it two wins from two in the Algarve Cup in Portugal.

Birmingham City forward Ava Baker scored towards the end of both halves to secure back-to-back wins for new head coach Lauren Smith, having already beaten the Netherlands last week.

Ademiluyi, who is on loan with Charlton Athletic for 2024/25, was making her first appearances for the England youth age groups during the international break. After appearing as a substitute against the Dutch, the forward started in the No9 shirt against Norway and played the full 90 minutes.

She and her England U19 teammates will next turn their attention to round one of qualification for next summer’s 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, which is taking place in Poland in June 2025. The first qualification phase will also be staged in Poland in November, with the WU19s set to face the hosts Poland, Italy and Turkey.
