West Ham United’s loanees were involved in a busy weekend of action at home and abroad.
In the Premier League, James Ward-Prowse made his second appearance for Nottingham Forest, starting the Reds’ 2-2 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion. The midfielder started and played the opening 45 minutes before being replaced at half-time by Ryan Yates.
Maxwel Cornet was an unused substitute for Southampton as the Saints conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home with fellow newly-promoted side Ipswich Town at St Mary’s Stadium.
In Spain, Nayef Aguerd started and played for 81 minutes for Real Sociedad as the White and Blues secured a goalless draw away at Valladolid in La Liga.
Kurt Zouma had a difficult weekend with Al-Orobah in the Saudi Arabian King Cup of Champions, as his side were beaten 4-1 by Al-Qadisiyah in Damman. Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was among Al-Qadisiyah’s goalscorers.
Back in England, Freddie Potts was substituted by Portsmouth manager John Mousinho with Pompey leading 1-0 at Scott Parker’s Burnley in the EFL Championship. However, following Potts’ withdrawal, the Clarets came back to win 2-1 with an added-time winner from Josh Brownhill.
Sticking with the Championship, George Earthy remains sidelined with an injury and was not involved in Bristol City’s 2-1 home victory over Oxford United at Ashton Gate.
Defender Michael Forbes was also absent as Bristol Rovers were beaten 2-1 at Barnsley in League One.
Callum Marshall started Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 defeat at home to Northampton Town. The Cobblers led 2-0 at half-time, when the Northern Ireland striker was substituted, and Michael Duff’s side were unable to turn the game around.
Huddersfield are fifth in the table ahead of Tuesday’s home game with Blackpool, while Bristol Rovers are 19th and do not play again until Saturday, when they host Gideon Kodua’s Wycombe Wanderers, who sit ninth.
Speaking of Kodua, he was not involved in the Chairboys’ 2-1 home victory over Cambridge United on Saturday, but will hope to feature when Matt Bloomfield’s side host Premier League Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday evening.
In League Two, Patrick Kelly was introduced as a late second-half substitute as Doncaster Rovers came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at MK Dons in a game where both teams were reduced to ten men. Elsewhere, Levi Laing was an unused substitute as Cheltenham Town drew 1-1 at Chesterfield.
Krisztián Hegyi was also an unused substitute for Motherwell in the Steelmen’s 2-1 home win over Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals, while Mohamadou Kanté was not involved in Paris FC’s 2-1 defeat at Bastia in France’s Ligue 2.
