Airidas Golambeckis against Switzerland

Golambeckis makes Young Lions debut

West Ham United Academy’s Airidas Golambeckis, Gabriel Caliste and Josh Briggs featured in their respective international fixtures on Friday.

Golambeckis made his England debut for the U18s. The young centre-back, who previously represented Lithuania at U16 level, was selected by Liam Bradley to travel to France with the England squad for the annual Lafarge Avenir Foot tournament. Golambeckis and his teammates were on course for a narrow victory after Newcastle United's Trevan Sanusi put the Young Lions in front just before half-time. However, a late penalty allowed Switzerland to equalise with the last kick of the game. Golambeckis will look to feature again in England's final match of the tournament against hosts France.

In Hyderabad, India, Caliste earned his second senior cap for Mauritius. The West Ham United U18s midfielder came on in the first half, replacing the injured Adel Langue, and played just under an hour in a 2-0 defeat to Syria.

In preparation for November's UEFA European Championship Qualifiers, Northern Ireland U19s travelled to Scandinavia for a three-team mini tournament. In their first fixture, Josh Briggs and his Northern Ireland teammates were defeated 2-0 by hosts Norway, a scoreline that did not fully reflect their spirited performance.

Meanwhile Kaelan Casey was an unused substitute as England’s men’s Elite League Squad (formerly Under-20s) drew 1-1 with Türkiye.
