Women's Loan Watch | Flannery and Belloumou taste victory

Two of West Ham United women’s team’s loanees enjoyed victories with their respective temporary clubs at the weekend.

Keira Flannery helped Sunderland reach the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals by winning 2-0 at Portsmouth on Sunday.

The on-loan midfielder was introduced as a late substitute as the Lasses saw off their Barclays Women’s Championship rivals through first-half goals from Jenna Dear and Emily Scarr at Havant and Waterlooville FC’s Westleigh Park. Fellow West Ham loanee Jessie Stapleton was not involved.

The quarter-final draw will take place on Tuesday 11 February, with Sunderland the only remaining Championship representatives in the hat, with ties to be played on the weekend of 8-9 March. The other seven clubs are all in the Barclays Women’s Super League – Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Goalkeeper Katelin Talbert was an unused substitute as Aston Villa held of Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 to reach the last-eight.

Sunderland are seeking to reach the final for the second time in their history, having lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the 2009 showpiece, while Aston Villa are targeting a place in their first Women’s FA Cup final.

Inès Belloumou started for Malmö in the Swedish club’s 2-0 pre-season victory over Norwegian opponents Rosenborg at the Estepona Football Center in Málaga, Spain, on Sunday.

Defender Belloumou played the full game as Beatrice Persson and StinaLisa Johansson struck inside the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

Malmö are preparing for a return to Sweden’s top-flight Damallsvenskan after winning promotion from the Elitettan in 2024. The new season kicks-off on 23 March with a trip to Häcken.

Before then, Belloumou and her teammates face Danish clubs B93 and Brøndby in pre-season matches, followed by Swedish Women’s Cup group-stage ties against Växjö, Rosengård and Linköping.

Neither Shannon Cooke (Birmingham City), nor Macey Nicholls and Ellie Moore (both Hashtag United) were in action at the weekend.
