Camila Sáez made history on Saturday as she became only the third woman to make 100 appearances for Chile.
After starting all three group-stage matches at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in 2010, the defender made her senior debut for her country in March 2011. And now, having featured in many major tournaments and received regular call-ups, Sáez has hit another milestone in a Chile shirt.
The 30-year-old played all 90 minutes of her momentous game, but unfortunately, opponents Argentina ran away 3-0 winners in the first of two friendlies between the countries during the February international break.
Maricel Pereyra got the scoring underway after 21 minutes, and second-half goals from Yamila Rodríguez and Agostina Holzheier wrapped up the contest.
Elsewhere, two West Ham United women’s team players were victorious in Spain, competing in the second round of Pinatar Cup fixtures on Saturday.
Li Mengwen, who played all 90 minutes, was on the scoresheet as China ran out 4-0 winners against Chinese Taipei. A Pei-lin Teng own-goal set China on their way midway through the first half before Ziqin Shao doubled their advantage six minutes before the break.
The West Ham full-back added a third five minutes after the restart, while substitute Zhang Xin also got in on the act in the second half.
The victory moves China to the top of the standings on goal difference, level on points with Shelina Zadorsky’s Canada, who were also winners on Saturday.
They put two unanswered goals past Mexico, scoring twice through Vanessa Gilles and Adriana Leon after the Hammers defender was introduced as a half-time substitute.
