West Ham United made it four games unbeaten in the Football League First Division with a scrappy 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on this day in 1990.

Martin Allen reacted quickest to score on the rebound after Julian Dicks' stinging effort was saved by Stephen Pears in the 'Boro goal.

Allen's opportunistic strike gave the Hammers a lead that they never surrendered at Ayresome Park as Billy Bonds' side continued their push for a Play-Off place.
