A Premier League victory over London rivals Fulham brought plenty of cheer to the Boleyn Ground on this day in 2006, as incredible goals from Anton Ferdinand and Yossi Benayoun gave West Ham a 2-1 victory.

Ferdinand opened the scoring for the Hammers with a once in a lifetime strike, a tremendous volley from the edge of the box that flew into the top-left corner.

Things got even better just eleven minutes later, when another fine effort put West Ham further in the ascendancy.

Benayoun received the ball on the edge of the box, twisted and turned to the right-hand side of the area and launched an audacious chip over Antti Niemi in the Fulham sticks, which came off to stunning effect. The Finland goalkeeper was left rooted to the spot as the ball delicately flew over him and ultimately put West Ham clear on the day.

Fulham made West Ham work for their victory in the second half, as Iceland striker Heiðar Helguson clawed a goal back for the away side, but the Hammers had too much for their London rivals and managed to see out the game with all three points in their pocket.
